Storyboards
Nutcracker
These boards were the visual accompaniment of a practice advertisement pitch for a stage production of "The Nutcracker." I really wanted to capture the feeling of wonderment and beauty one might feel while attending the performance, while also showing off the talents of the performers themselves. Working on this project, I learned about the level of finish an advertising company will look for in their boards.
Cave Rock
Cave Rock is not a fully fleshed out story, but I did visit it again and again for multiple story boarding exercises. The story is about a young cave woman who discovers the percusive nature of stretched hide, and through other forms of experimentation, invents multiple instruments and forms a rock band. These final color boards represent each of those key story elements.
Running Out
This piece was an exploration of timing with music, as well as an opportunity for me to study dance as an inspiration for animation. I was able to dissect a specific collection of coreography by Robert Bondara, and use it to design my own. With this narrative, I wanted to express the process of grief, from denial to acceptance. I didnt complete the story, but I'm still satisfied with the work I did, and the emotions I captured.
Haunted House
This animatic was a short film concept about a group of amatuer ghost hunters, and a young ghost girl, who is trying to scare the people away from her house. However, a clumsy mistake from the ghost, turns into an embarrassing disaster, that doesn't end well for the ghost hunters. While the ghost in this film may not look like it, this character actually evolved to become the ghost girl in "Soulbound." In fact, initially I wanted to further develop this animatic story into a short film, but I realized it lack substance unless I could tell the story in a longer format. I also disliked the idea of building a story around the ghost as a shut off who didn't want any one around her. I had always imagined the character as very lovable and friendly, and this story just was not right for her.
Epochal Juice
For this film, I did not do much in the story boarding stage. I decided to focus on more of the world building and concept work in pre-production. However, I did give input on a few shots as support to the story boarding team. This shot was one of my more dynamic contributions. I am quite proud of the visual dialogue here. I feel that I did a good job of developing a clear transition between two sequences in the film, and expressing the overwhelming emotions of our protaganist at this point in the story.
